Introduction: In association with our Tips and Tricks book range, we asked Leanna to write about some of her tips and tricks in life. We hope that it inspires you whether or not you have a special condition. We are also proud to provide a glowing reference for any other organisations who would like to know more about Leanna.

By Leanna Mills - Blog Contributor & Brand Ambassador

When I turned 13 years old, my Parkinson’s disease symptoms became severe and I became sick while my body became much less mobile.

As a result, I’ve had many operations to help me to recover and gain more mobility. I believe with modern medicine you could be lucky like I was and have good results. Previously, I struggled to do some really simple things in life but now as a result of these operations, I can eat and drink, sit up and I’ve begun to stand with support. I can also now go outside although I still need someone’s help. This probably all sounds like really basics tasks for most people but before these operations, I couldn’t do these things and many more.

Recently, I have challenged myself to be able to stand up although I still need to hold on for support.

I'm really proud to be able to achieve this milestone and hope that I can make more progress.
Yes, there is a risk when having an operation and it’s something you need to think about carefully. You could potentially end up worse but the upside can be so great when it gives you a chance to live life. My tip is to get good medical advice, consider your situation now compared to what it could be and of course, be brave!

I can’t believe how sad, angry and lonely I was been in bed, sick and immobile. So now, every day l make sure I go outside and see the beautiful sunshine and all the life out there.

A big reason I believe how I was able to improve my life was by spending time with people that lovingly take me outside to feel the warm sunlight and see wonderful rainbows. It just makes me smile and laugh, while taking everything off my mind. I don’t think about being sick or having a disability, I just think of life and how lucky I am to be here. All that matters to me, is I am here today living in the moment and appreciating the wonderful things I can do because previously I wasn’t able to do.

Now I’m lucky enough to be able to write this blog for you, create art, bake a cake, volunteer to help kids, going out, take photos and live life happily. If you would like to learn more about me, please see and message me via my Facebook page. I am keen to get involved and love being part of the community.

I hope my little tips and tricks in life might inspire you!

Leanna, you inspire me every day to remember that life is made up of small shared moments helping one another. While I help you during the day with some of those simple things, your bravery and tenacity and above all your ridiculous sense of humour, really touch me and make laugh and cry.

I second what Eila said! You really are an inspiration to everyone you meet. Working with you is so rewarding, just seeing how happy you always are regardless of your situation is a true inspiration. On days when Id rather stay in bed and not go to the gym , I always think 'there are people who can't just get up and go to the gym, I shouldn't take my legs for granted! '
Thank you for being you Len ❤
